About Dr. Subhra Sil
Started his career as a Residential Ophthalmologist at the Vivekananda Mission Ashram Netra Niramay Niketan, a 100-bedded rural eye hospital in Chaitanyapur, West Bengal, in 2001. He established a Low Vision Clinic and a Rural Eye Bank, and became the first Head of the Institute of Ophthalmic Training. He also organised large-scale paediatric low vision services across West Bengal in collaboration with the Sarva Siksha Mission under its Inclusive Education Programme. Since 2014, he has been leading the VMANNN Chandi (Amtala) branch in South 24 Parganas.
He is the recipient of several prestigious honours, including the AIOS Award for Refraction and Contact Lens (2010), the Prof. M. A. Matin Indo-Bangladesh Friendship Award (2014), and the Dr. G. Sitalakshmi Award (2018) for his outstanding contribution to cornea services and rural eye banking.
Education
MBBS from NRS Medical College, Kolkata, DNB (Ophthalmology) from Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. Trained as National Focal Person in Low Vision from Hong Kong Society for the Blind, then in Clinical Low Vision from Light House International, New York. Trained in Cornea from LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad and Moran Eye Institute, Utah, USA.
